July 25, 2012 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. Autism – Thyroid, Puberty, Testosterone, Diabetes and Hypoglycemia
Many of our children on the spectrum have thyroid problem. A simple blood test doesn’t always show the problem and needs a more specialized blood test to discover. Thyroid problems are associated with bowel disorders, sleep problems and mental alertness. Also many of our children can have Precocious (early) or late Puberty, which can be harmful to the body and needs to be watched. With puberty you can see more behaviors and aggression as well as a higher chance of developing seizures, especially in males. Since many of our children are also picky eaters, Diabetes and Hypoglycemia are common. Presenter: Dr. Kathryn L. Eckert is a Board Certified Pediatric Endocrinologist
